About the Author –

Naveen Kumar Chandra is an avid reader and prolific writer. He is also very interested in subjects and topics such as economics, philosophy, psychology, physics, astronomy, music and art. He also loves to paint and sketch. He writes on a variety of issues and topics and has published several books. He has a blog which he has been writing for over 10 years. Having graduated from IIT Roorkee, he is currently working as an IAS officer in the state of West Bengal.

पुर्तगालियों के आगमन—भारत में आने वाले प्रथम यूरोपियन जिन्होंने भारत में अपने शक्ति केंद्र स्थापित किए—ने इस विशाल भू-भाग की कोलाहलपूर्ण स्थिति को उजागर किया। यद्यपि शक्तिशाली मुगलों ने अपने साम्राज्य का निर्माण एवं विस्तार किया, तथापि वे कभी भी समुद्री प्रभुत्व हासिल नहीं कर सके। दूसरी ओर, यूरोपियों ने उपनिवेशी साम्राज्य का निर्माण अपनी नौसेना (समुद्री शक्ति) के बल पर किया।

यह पुस्तक यूरोपियों के आगमन और भारत पर ब्रिटिश शासन के क्रमिक प्रभुत्व से लेकर उपनिवेशी शासन से भारत की स्वतंत्रता तक की अशांत अवधि की समीक्षा करती है।

यह पुस्तक भारत पर ब्रिटिश शासन की आर्थिक तथा प्रशासनिक नीतियों के प्रभाव केअलावा, सामाजिक-आर्थिक मोर्चे पर परिवर्तनों, सुधार आंदोलनों, प्रेस के विकास और शैक्षिक प्रगति पर भी विमर्श करती है।
